This is the wedding photography blog for Melbourne based photographer Brent Lukey.

Brent combines a documentary and editorial style capturing classic, natural moments without making the day feel like a photo shoot.

He will travel anywhere, but mostly gets about Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula, and Geelong.

You can contact Brent on 0427 483 836 and look at more work at his web sites.

back in the office

Calibrating the monitor to start work again today. I also shot a wedding on Monday so it's been a busy break.

Spent Christmas in Tidal River at Wilson's Promontory, just us and the Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, and Buddhist families. I hardly got the camera out, while Hannah (my 6 year old) shot loads with her new camera - a Fuji XP10. It's waterproof, dust proof, shock proof and small. Donna and I liked it so much we bought one too.

Courtney and Tom's wedding - St Michael's and Comme.

The ‘Paris end' of Collins Street and surrounds is a Melbourne wedding classic. There’s St Michaels, The Scots’ and The Baptist church then any number of photo locations to choose from – laneways, fashion store facades, cafes, Federation Square, building foyers, The Windsor Hotel, Parliament House and the Treasury building - even Fitzroy Gardens is close by.

For Courtney and Tom’s intimate wedding we kept it simple (as is my way). After the ceremony at St Michael’s we walked some lanes and avoided other weddings, moved toward Spring Street then back down to Comme for the reception.

Great Wedding Songs

So the wedding date is set and now the fun stuff begins. Yes, it's time to plan the best party of your life and it's time to choose some great wedding songs.

But wait! While searching your music collection it appears that the songs you love and share are not quite right for a wedding. Turning to your fiancĂ© you make a passionate case that 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is the best love song ever written and it should be played while exiting the church, but you know it's not going to happen ... and that's where we might help.

Here you will find a list of truly great wedding songs that are alternative, sincere, cool, modern, fun and maybe just a little bit punkGreat Wedding Songs - have a look.

Anita and Michael - Gardens House, Royal Botanic Gardens, Melbourne.

There are many couples who plan great weddings without the hype or puff. Anita and Michael had a garden ceremony and cocktail party at Gardens House in the Royal Botanic Gardens here in Melbourne. Gardens House is a hidden gem for a wedding - it's private, historic, surrounded by magnificent gardens and is well catered for by Peter Rowland. The coverage began just prior to the bride arriving and finished a couple of hours after the ceremony (conducted by Sylvia Johnson). No preparation shots, no locations, no driving, no great length of time away from the party. After the ceremony we arranged some family photos, took a brief walk around the house and that was it - photos done, party on.

nerd alert - free web gallery software

Generally, I use Adobe Bridge or Adobe Lightroom to make proof galleries, and find the Lightroom presets better for HTML output than Bridge. Either way at times they are cumbersome programs for making web sites - especially if you have to load all the images into Lightroom again. The other day I found an excellent, free, simple and endlessly customisable program to make simple HTML galleries. It's called Quick Gallery and it's great. Take a look.
